“the jig is up! stop by Jiggs!”

Jiggs Smokehouse was built in the early 70’s by Jiggs Botchlett as an outlet for his turkey and egg farms. Originally there was no dining area it was strictly retail whole turkey, turkey roll, and egg store. Not until 1978 when long time owner George Klaassen purchased the business from his 2nd wife’s uncle Jiggs. That is when it became the Jiggs Smokehouse that is known worldwide today. In 1978 there were only 2 menu items. Ham or turkey sandwich no condiments just butter, no mayo. Butter, no mustard. Butter, no lettuce, no tomato, no onion. JUST BUTTER. As the business increased so did the menu. George put his life longculinary skills to work and his creations were born. Jiggs Bq Sauce (sweet and spicy-- good enough to drink) Jigg’s Beef Jerky (sweet n smoky w/a bite). Next came the sandwich lover’s heaven!

Updated Way to Enjoy Route 66

Many of the old iconic sites along this route are long gone and some of the recommended places to eat are probably best avoided. But, if you don't mind a small detour, there is an alternative route in western Oklahoma that offers several more interesting sites & venues, and it will rejoin the old Route 66 in due time. Take the detour and you'll skip the most boring part of 66 and be glad you did!

If you take the Highway 3 (aka Northwest Expressway) exit off of I44 in Oklahoma City and follow it northwest for around 30 minutes to Okarche, you'll find a somewhat legendary place (at least around Oklahoma) called Eischen's Bar which is famous for its fried chicken. It also claims to be the oldest Bar in Oklahoma. But don't fill up too much there, before you head due north for around 35-45 mins on Highway 81 to Enid. Once there, head downtown to what may well be the most authentic Scottish/Irish Pub this side of Boston- Callahan's Pub & Grille (no under 21's) has been featured on several travel clips and consistently gets rave reviews on tripadvisor.com and other sites.

From Enid, head west on Hwy 412 and you'll pass through the Gloss Mtns, a quite unique geological area. A bit further down the road lies Little Sahara State Park with its sand dunes where you can rent power sports equipment and pretend you're Lawrence of Arabia. Hungry afterward? Go the couple of miles into Waynoka to Cafe Bahnhof for genuine German Schnitzel and Schnapps.

Head back south from Waynoka to Seiling where you'll take Hwy 60 westward to the Texas border through Canadian and on to Pampa, TX where lies the famous Dyer's BBQ. Stuff yourself one more time before continuing on to Amarillo and rejoin Route 66 just in time for more good stuff.

Great place for a stop to get a BIG bite to eat. Great food and great BBQ sauces - wish I had got more. Don't miss out. This review is for a visit in Oct 2019 - yeah yeah i should have done this earlier.

Great food with very friendly staff! The barbecue sauce was so good we bought two bottles on the way out. We arrived just before closing and it was just our party and a couple of locals eating. They even let us sneak our dog inside with us so she didn't have to wait in the car while we ate. Come hungry, this is a must stop!

Not pleased at all with the food. Visiting family seen they were on foodnework. The food didn't seem fresh, the sandwiches were not real BBQ, prepared before and heated if at all. My husbands sandwich the ham was cold and sausage was luke warm. Will not recommend.
