Longhorn Cavern State Park features Longhorn Cavern, a Texas Hill Country wonder created over thousands of years by the dissolving and cutting action of water on the limestone bedrock of the area. Fossil remains show that many Ice Age animals once occupied the cave. Our earliest records indicate that the Comanche Indians were the first to use the cavern. They came in about 400 years or so before anyone else did. In more recent history, the cavern was used as a Confederate stronghold where gunpowder was manufactured in secret during the Civil War. The cavern is also rumored to have been the hideout of Sam Bass, a legendary Texas outlaw. Longhorn Cavern is one of the few river-formed caverns in Texas.
If you always want to explore and discover another wonderful place, then maybe you would want to try visiting this place. The caverns here are very interesting and really worthy exploring and also you will learn a lot of things about the place from a very informative tour guide, that is really willing to share his knowledge about the place's history. But you need to stick close to him since they turn off the lights of each sections whenever you are about to move around.
The rock formations you can find here are really beautiful and will give you a lot of wonderful photographs. However, if you have been in this place in the past, you would notice that the rock formations are not as beautiful as it was in the past. But still the place is really worth a visit.
This is a nice cave but doesn't boast as many spectacular formations as other local caves. It is an interesting tour with a lot of local history, and some cool artifacts and stories. I would definitely check it out if you're in the area.
Surface trails are nice, too, and would only take about an hour to hike. Be sure to check out the CCC observation tower on the property, too!
This is better than I expected, however due to it being privately ran, it is a little more expensive than other state parks. The ca e system is impressive and we were able to see bats up close along the hike!
Longhorn Cavern State Park in Marble Falls is a fantastic place to work off your lunch. Once a month they offer paranormal cave tours during "the witching hours." The cavern is a limestone cave that was made by an old underground river. Over the years it's been used by Native Americans, Confederate soldiers, and outlaws like Sam Bass. The cave was also used as a dance hall and speakeasy during Prohibition.
