“At the assassination site of Martin Luther King”
The National Civil Rights Museum, located at the Lorraine Motel, the assassination site of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., chronicles key episodes of the American civil rights movement and the legacy of this movement to inspire participation in civil and human rights efforts globally, through our collections, exhibitions, and educational programs. Dedicated on September 28, 1991, the Museum exists to assist the public in understanding the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement and its impact and influence on human rights movements worldwide, through its collections, exhibitions, research and educational programs. It chronicles the civil rights movement from 1619 to 2000 with historical exhibits, including Room 306, the hotel room where Dr. King stayed in April of 1968.
Like walking through a time machine. This place should be a requirement for every child growing up in America. It was powerful and is undoubtedly a must stop if going through Memphis
The content had such a profound impact on us-we were actually overwhelmed with information. The displays are almost too busy and too numerous for a single walkthrough.
The commercialization represented by the gift shops that you must exit through is tacky and reminded us of a Disney theme park-certainly the history of civil rights struggles merits a classier treatment!
It has been expanded a TON since my last visit, but even when it was smaller it was one of the most powerful places I'd ever been. They've kept the exterior of the motel the same as it was the day MLK was assassinated, and just seeing that will give you chills. History comes alive here. If you're visiting Memphis with children you MUST visit this museum. One of the most incredible museums I've ever visited.
This place is a must do for anyone in the Memphis area. Very powerful interactive exhibits that will keep you fighting back your tears. My children learned a lot.
A powerful place to visit. We were told the the tour would take about 2 hours, but we could have spent at least twice that seeing all the exhibits. Seeing the motel room left as it was the day of the assassination leaves you speechless.
the location of where MLK was shot and now a powerful civil rights museum. i bring people here every time i come to Memphis, don't miss out on this real life american history lesson.
This place is AMAZING. Such historical value. Definitely a must-see for anyone who appreciates history.
Amazing!!!!! A heart wrenching experience. We will be back !
Unbelievable!!!!! A heat wrenching powerful experience. We will be back!
Powerful, sobering. The exit through gift shop and some of the merchandise itself is a bit much...
