Hands down the best restaurant in Nashville. Featured by everyone from Martha Stewart to Bobby Flay, this is entirely authentic Southern cuisine. And although the institutional biscuit lady has passed, the place still churns out thousands of biscuits daily. Be careful if you go on Sunday for lunch though. A 2 hour wait is considered short.

This place was somewhat cool to visit, but the food was terrible. I ordered the fried chicken with garlic mashed red potatoes (the "vegetable" of the day) and turnip greens and my mom ordered chicken fried steak with gravy and green beans. The gravy that came with her steak had NO pepper in it whatsoever (a main component of chicken fried steak gravy), and my gravy tasted like it came out of a box. The meat was cooked perfectly - crispy and juicy - but had hardly ANY seasoning. The vegetables were a bit overseasoned (super salty and spicy) but I much preferred that to the bland chicken and steak. The biscuits and jam were good, but not being a biscuit person, I was severely disappointed after reading all the rave reviews. This was definitely not worth a 30 minute (there and back) detour off of my trip.
That being said, the moonshine fueled drinks are delicious and strong (I got the "Blue Moon") and the area is cool to check out. There are a few little souvenir and food shops, plus a gallery that was closed when we arrived at 5PM on a Monday. Go for the atmosphere if you must, but don't get your hopes up about dinner. Maybe the breakfast is better.
Go for the drinks and atmosphere, but don't expect amazing southern food.
Delicious biscuits and fun atmosphere. Even as vegetarians, we were able to find some tasty options to get a good sampling of southern cooking. My son ordered the pancakes for dinner (they're huge!), Which I got a chance to try. They were the best pancakes I have ever tasted! Wish we had more time to go back for breakfast!
Directed here by a local State Trooper so we knew it would be great. A 5 mile jaunt off of I40 and 45 minute wait (on a Friday) were well worth it. Had fried chicken and biscuits of course. The jams and preserves are delicious. Don't miss it. Lots to explore and do while you wait ;).
