The Sun Aura Nudist Resort opened in 1933. it was founded by Alois Knapp, a Chicago lawyer, German Nacktkulturist, editor of Sunshine and Health magazine, and "the father of nudism in America." Eventually it was passed down to Dick and Mary Drost. There it maintained for a few years, but soon things dwindled as Dick was arrested for pedophilia charges. Around that time, the 63 foot leg sundial was created and has stayed put ever since. The Sun Aura Resort is basically a trailer park where the tenants are allowed to walk around in the nude. Because nudity outdoors looses its appeal in the cold Indiana winter, as the temperature falls so does the resort's occupancy. If you happen to meet the owner he may give you a tour around the resort grounds in his golf cart where you will see panty trees, dildole gardens, and where the resort's favorite resident "Big Dick George" lives. Because it is an operating resort photos are not encouraged, but if you are courteous, and really want the best roadtrip photo momento ever to take home, have blown up, put in a fancy frame, and placed over your fireplace- you can probably get one. Especially in the colder months.
It was easy to find using the address and GPS. I had read the Roadtrippers info too quickly and didn't realize it was an active community living there. The people were extremely welcoming as I braved going in past the gate (bringing my friend with me). I was polite and shared why I was there. Kindly directed to the leg sundial and the gentleman who helped us find it offered to take a picture. If nudity makes you uncomfortable, you may not want to stop, otherwise it's a fun roadside photo moment.
I had the pleasure of seeing the sundial and what a sight! It is hidden within a nudist colony :) Everyone was very friendly and it was something to check off the list!
No problems finding the resort or getting in. Everyone was extremely friendly and didn’t mind us stopping by to see the sundial!
This place is beaten off the path.... but worth a good pull off the road. The leg is so big it’s seen with the naked eye. They really let it all hang out there!

Well was going to stop for a real quick to see it...thought it might be easy to take a quick pic however it's a nudist colony and the gate says for members only inquiries welcome guess I won't take the kids in to see!
Very easy to get to off of the highway but no pictures are allowed!
As others have said the sundial is behind the gate however we were not allowed to enter period. Not worth the trip
you have to be 21 to enter and it cost money
