“Camping & RV in WA”
The campground has 59 sites covering a splendid 8 acres of old growth forest on the North Fork of the Skokomish River. Several of the campsites are on or have access to the river. Even if you get the last available campsite there are enough gorgeous sights and trails to make you happy. The center of the huge loop has a number of sites in close proximity that are great for larger groups. There is drinking water, flush toilets and wheelchair accessible facilities. Nature programs and amphitheatre presentations on the weekends. The entrance to the campground is the trailhead for a number of great hikes through old growth forest along the river. The two most popular are the Shady Lane Trail that meanders down river through lush forest and The Staircase Rapids trail that heads up river with amazing views of the river and thick rainforest of fir and cedar. You will find a short off shoot on the trail that takes you to an old fallen cedar of monumental proportion. The Ranger Station is also the trailhead for Flapjack Lakes, Black and White Lakes, and beyond, tying into the web of wilderness trails throughtout the Olympic National Forest. In old growth forest, along Skokomish River. Some riverside sites. 21' recommended RV lengths (some for up to 35'). Running water in summer, pit toilets & no water in winter. Flush toilets are not accessible.
Olympic National Park is a land of beauty and variety. A day's exploration can take you from breathtaking mountain vistas with meadows of wildflowers to colorful ocean tide pools. Nestled in the valleys are some of the largest remnants of ancient forests left in the country. A variety of hiking trails navigate through the Staircase area along the Skokomish River and the nearby forests. There are several short day-hikes that explore the area. Shady Lane trail is flat, and less than a mile to Lake Cushman. The hike to Flapjack Lakes is for the stronger hikers, gaining over 3,000 feet in elevation.
Absolutely incredible and beautiful. Sites are large and well treed. Bathrooms were very clean. Staff were helpful. Can't wait to go back.
