“Pennsylvania's Greatest Natural Wonder”

The 55 minute interpretive tour includes a 13 minute movie in the Crystal Cave Theater presenting the history of Pennsylvania's first show cave and the geology of caves. Trained and courteous guides will lead you through an array of spectacular milky white stalactites, stalagmites, pillar & dripstone formations enhanced by indirect lighting. Marvels of stone sculptury include the Cathedral Chamber, the Prairie Dogs, the Giant’s Tooth, the Ear of Corn and Tobacco Leaves, the Natural Bridge, the Indian Head, the Totem Pole, and the Crystal Ballroom. Concrete walks and steel railings ensure your safety through your descent 125 feet underground. The temperature is a constant and comfortable 54 degrees, however, a light sweater or jacket and comfortable walking shoes are recommended." The Ice Cream Parlor and Crystal Cave Cafe are open daily in July and August and on weekends in June and September. We offer a variety of fast food and Dutch Specialties as well as an assortment of ice cream cones, sundaes, and Dutch treats.I Despite the passage of time today’s tourists are intrigued in the same manner as early visitors were in the 1800’s. With the exception of easier access, illumination and slightly different names to identify formations, Crystal Cave’s appearance and description is very similar to when it was a newly discovered cave. In 1876, William H. Egle M.D. stated in his book An Illustrated History of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Civil, Political, and Military “that Crystal Cave is a remarkable curiosity and a subterranean wonder regarded with admiration by all who have examined it”.

Crystal cave, what can I say about this location. It’s a lovely location, scenic and historic. It’s seen far more than it’s fare share of tourists, considering it’s been open since 1871. It hosts a nature walking trail, mini golf, “Dutch” food restaurant, ice cream, stone gift store, and native American gift store/museum along with the cave. They provide a hour long tour, consisting of a short (13 minute) video then the rest is a guided tour. The tour guide I had was witty and informational. The gift store and tour were, unsurprisingly, expensive and potentially over priced...the only redeeming factor is the are trying to repair what over a hundred years of tourist who didn’t understand what they’d do to the cave. The practice careful and intense conservation, attempting to clean algae that grows in the lights, and carefully mapping all nooks. All and all it was a good time, just go ready to spend and maybe do small groups if your not.

Nice easy day trip. Walking up to the cave is steep! Enjoyable movie gives you a quick history of the cave. Cave is awesome. Could have stayed in there for longer. So so much to see !! Nice reasonable gift shop.
