“One of Oregon's most photo'd falls”
Proxy Falls is one of America's most beautiful waterfalls. It's seriously next-level. As one of the most photographed falls in the country it can get pretty busy during the spring, summer, and fall. This spring-fed waterfall has a wall of columnar basalt that's lined in moss...I'm not kidding when I say words really can't do this place justice. The water cascades down over 200 feet in what looks like a veil of water, hence the term Veil Falls. You can access the trails just off the McKenzie Pass Highway. When you reach the junction of Highways 126 and 242, follow signs towards 242 for a little over 6 miles, and you'll see signs for Proxy Falls Trailhead. Just follow the trail, which is conveniently a loop. A good tip is to follow the trail in the opposite direction it suggests, so basically in a clockwise fashion, so that you hit Upper Proxy Falls first, and then the Lower falls vantage point last. It's a less than a mile hike, and absolutely worth the detour! - Roadtrippers
Day Use Fee Area/Northwest Forest Pass. A true sense of deep-forest solitude and mountain beauty is found at Proxy Falls. Travel along the 1+ mile (1.6 km) loop trail through open lava fields and dense forest to view two distinctly different waterfalls.
Be aware that it's closed during the off season. Check online if you're planning to visit in the late fall/ winter/early spring.
The flow from Proxy Falls comes from multiple springs running off the North Sister mountain. The height? 226 feet of beautiful canyon, miss and fern.
The total hike is 1.6 miles (a loop) and includes two short spurs. One to the lower falls, pictured above, and the other to the upper falls. The side trail to the lower falls is a scramble, so if you have bad knees or difficulty walking you’ll want to skip it.
Bring water shoes if you have them. The rocks are slippery and the water is cold…but walking thru the springs to get to the spray is a must!
