“Bonnie and Clyde shootout”
The Stringtown Shootout Monument marks the spot along Highway 69 where a dance hall once stood. The hall, since abandoned, was made infamous by a shootout between Clyde Barrow (of Bonnie and Clyde fame) and local law enforcement. The monument honors the sacrifice of Atoka County Deputy Sheriff Eugene Moore, who was killed, and wounded Atoka County Sheriff, C.G. Maxwell.
Right next to home, but for sale, so pulled in there.
Right next to someone’s home and felt like we were driving on their property, but nice memorial! Looks like the foundation for the old dance hall is set in the ground behind the memorial. Cool spot!
