“Getting your chicks on since 1946”

The Chicken Basket, as it is today, opened in the summer of 1946 on Historic Illinois Route 66. Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket has been in countless Route 66 documentaries and travel books on Route 66 and has visitors from around the world on a regular basis! This brings back memories of delicious fried chicken. I grew up in Darien before it was Incorporated and Dell Rhea's was a favorite of our family's. So glad to hear you're still in business!

Dell Rhea's is THE BEST! Worth the drive from Chicago — awesome chicken, biscuits, wings… super old-timey. One of my absolute favorite places near Chicago.

Absolutely, hands-down some of the best fried chicken I've ever tasted.

The buffalo wings were incredible. They were lightly breaded, deep-fried and had a nice spicy sauce that they were tossed in. But, they didn't feel too heavy. The french fries were delicious as well, and the bread they provide with the meal was warm.

The staff was incredibly friendly, and I met the owner and told him I work for Roadtrippers and he sent me home with an entire fried chicken dinner, which was AWESOME! They have a full bar on-site and overall the atmosphere was super charming and retro.

I honestly can't wait to go back. I highly, highly recommend stopping here for some delicious grub.

This place has great chicken and biscuits. Good for kids too, cause there's lots of stuff to look at. The restaurant is decorated with...you guessed it, loads of chickens. Paintings of chickens, little chicken figurines, and the staff are all super nice.

This was our first stop on a mostly Route 66 road trip home from Chicago, Illinois to Palm Springs, California near our home. The app Roadtrippers listed Dell Rheas as a Route 66 staple, so we planned an early (11am) lunch here. I'm still dreaming about the meal I ate as I prepare to retire in our hotel room in St. Louis for the evening. It's been hours since the experience, but here I am writing this review thirteen hours later.

From our waitress with the personal disposition, to meeting the friendly owner, Annie, and of course, the delicious buffet meal, Dell Rheas fulfilled every fried chicken fantasy I've ever had. Besides the signature chix that started it all, my favorites were the mashed potatoes (so creamy, gravy (perfectly seasoned--and not at all salty) and mellower-than-usual-but-ultimately-delicious sauerkraut. Okay. I had seconds. Darn. Didn't leave room for the salad bar, soup, and dessert, but that's the sacrifice I had to [willingly] make.

This place is the real deal. We weren’t even hungry but we ate some chicken anyway, and it was good 😊 The navigation was off but we found it with google maps. Kind of out of the way on a dead end road but still packed. That tells you all you need to know

Great Fried Chicken - glad they aren't near my hometown cause I would put on LBs. Service was great and menu was extensive. Get there early if you don't want to wait - visited here in Oct 2019, just now catching up on reviews.
